October 2024 Kitsap Providers Breakfast

October 05, 20242 min read

Dear Friend,

The Kitsap Providers Breakfast will return to our friends at Baypointe Senior Living on Tuesday, October 15th, 8:30 to 10:00 am. But wait …. this meeting is co-hosted by Jessica Hull, Haley Fitzgerald and Generations Home Care (our pal and breakfaster Ben Douglas is the operations manager in Kitsap County). Ben’s associate, Jake Gamble, is the featured speaker presenting on the topic of dementia.

The topic keeps bubbling up in our community of professionals. Last month The Kitsap Providers Breakfast met at Vineyard Park of Bremerton, 2707 Clare Ave, Bremerton, WA 98310 and Bridgeview Care just next door. Our hosts were Holly Carr, Community Relations Director for Vineyard Park and Karen Winfield, Business Development-Southern Region for Caldera Care.

Vineyard executive director, Lisa Carlock, gave us a refresher on Creative Thinking and Never Giving Up! At the least that was the advertised topic. I think it fair to say that as a mother of six, Lisa has developed higher than average story telling skills. Using the story of Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss as an outline, Lisa spoke of how caregivers treat people with memory loss and other forms of dementia. Her story was at the same time captivating, illustrative, funny and shockingly real. Good job, Lisa and thanks.

The Theme Goes On

It wasn’t an official breakfaster gathering but it might as well have been. The Silverdale Walk For Alzheimers was well attended. I browsed about 18 sponsor booths. Maybe ¾ of those were staffed from our own little group. Good job breakfasters. It was fun to be with you all. Congratulations.

An old man and his grandson are playing golf. The grandson hits the ball into the rough near a tree. The grandfather says, “When I was your age I could hit my ball over that tree!” Try and try again and the grandson couldn’t hit the ball over the tree. He finally gives up and says “Okay, how did you do it?” The grandfather replies, “When I was your age that tree was only a few feet tall.
